Arriving in Yorkton, Sask.
Dear All:
We have arrived safe at Yorkton, Saskatchewan. I've never stopped here before but have passed by at least once about 12 years back while motorcycling to a friend's wedding in Ontario. We've stopped here because Doug has a friend/university room mate teaching at the local school. The plan for tomorrow is to relax a bit, rest our butts, do a bit of shopping and play golf. I really haven't seen the town yet but I'm told that the golf course is quite good.
On our journey I've discovered something interesting; it was easier to find internet access while I was travelling through Tanzania than when travelling through rural Saskatchewan. A lot of the places that we stopped along the way were very rustic.(backward) In one town we met a fellow who told us the story of a woman who got 15 years in prison for murdering her baby when police discovered traces on marijuana in her breast milk. It was the milk that killed that child, you know. The gent didn't know who had thought to get the subpoena for the murder weapon.
We've deviated a bit from our planned route. We had peddled hard through a gale force cross-wind, making about 7K/Hr to get to a place called Nokomis. With the going so hard and slow and few services available on the road we were on we chose to turn North to the Yellowhead Highway. Suddenly the cross-wind was a tail-wind and we had no problems making 35+K/Hr. In fact, at one point we tried to stop for a break and wound up coasting for over a kilometre on level ground. It took almost no time to arrive in Lanigan where we called an early evening and relaxed.
It's been a couple of days getting from Lanigan to here. I'm really looking forward to this break.
Hugs to all, Brent
