9/06, Friday Day 36 3299 Km's
Boat
Launch on Hammer Lake, Ontario 113 Km's ~ 6:30 Hrs
Got
away from the gravel pit a bit late. (9:00ish). Haven't seen the
other cyclists. If Bill made it to Marathon I suspect that he would
have passed us while we slept, his habit being to get up at 4:00 AM
and get started. My pace was slow all morning so it was unlikely that
we could have caught him despite his, over-all, slower
pace. He says that he makes about 100 miles a day so I doubt that
we'll see him again. Pierre and Rick (Mark)
are probably still behind us. They are late starters but are making
about the same distance as us each day. We may cross paths with them
again.
It
turns out that Pierre and Mark had passed us last night at the sand
pit. They'd considered it as a camp site but decided to continue for
another hour before bedding down and are now in front.
Best
hamburgers on the Trans-Canada are at Gloria's Hotel & Restaurant
about half way between Marathon and White River. There's really not a
lot else around there. Another Hotel
& Restaurant
about 100 yards farther east, but that's it.
White
River exists only because of Winnie the Pooh. A town of 1000 people
with little else to support it except that it's the home town of the
real Winnie. There must be 5 WtP gift stores on the highway. Doug
bought a coffee mug because Nikki said he had to.
Would
it be right to call White River a town built on a foundation of Pooh?
I
called Mom. She's bought a new car ('03 Cavellier, $11 G's) That's
probably about $3000 too much but the deal is already made and Mom
seemed pretty proud of her independence, making the deal without
help, so I told her that she'd done good.
Uncle
George is in the hospital getting an operation on an aneurism in his
side.
Grocery
shopped in White River
Others
have camped at this boat launch.
We
sat on a flat rock in the lake and shot some tape.
Red
wine with supper.
