10/06, Saturday Day 37 3439 Km's
Sand
River Hiking Area, Lake Superior P.P., Ont. 140 Km's ~ 6:50 Hrs
Frost
on my bike seat this morning. Made good time with the tailwind. Cold
this morning and neither of us wanted to get out of bed but about
8:00
a fellow showed up to launch his boat. He's taking his son (~ 4 yrs,
still in a child seat) fishing. While we were packing up another
fellow came passed with a boat, took a look and left. (???)
Twenty
five of thirty kilometres west of Wawa we passed a lone lady cyclist
heading west. Dressed in yellow, from Nova Scotia, she looked to be
struggling against the wind. Been there, done that.
Doug
lost the coin toss at the Wawa turn off so he had to go into town for
provisions while I sat in a restaurant on the highway. He had some
trouble getting the things he wanted.
Stopped
at Rabbit Blanket Lake camp ground
in
the park
and it was too early to camp (16:00) so we pressed on. The warden
said it was 40 or 50 Km's
to the next the next camp (Agawa Bay) and we wouldn't make it. We
caught a tail wind and burned off 40 K's in pretty quick order. There
are no "miles to" signs in the park so we camped at Sand
River. A nice spot. The
picnic area is in the trees and fairly well protected from the cold
winds blowing off the lake.
There's
a van in the parking lot with the vanity plate "9 KIDZ" and
a "Bush 2004" bumper sticker. It's a good thing I didn't
see them when they left, I would have said something that might be
taken the wrong way.
Eleven
passenger window van with 4 child seats in it, two cargo pods on the
roof. Storage space in back crammed with toilet paper, instant
noodles and other cheap stuff.
