8/06, Thursday Day 35 3186 Km's
Sandpit,
east
of Marathon, Ontario 103 Km's ~ 6:20 Hrs
The
need/desire to make 100 Km/day.
Doug
is patient with the decreased pace.
Riding
with one leg.
Standing
up towards the end of the day.
Fox
wants to share our supper. - We stopped in the sandpit and started to
set up a bit of a camp. It was an awkward spot. The wind was blowing
pretty good but I don't remember it being cold. We tried to build a
wind break with the bikes, tarp, our bodies and junk found in the
sandpit to shield the flame of the stove. Trying to keep all of the
heat from blowing away as Doug cooked the pasta for supper. We were
really hungry and were eating sandwiches while the water boiled. A
fox came passed and was probably thinking the same thing. He wove
back and forth and made a few close approaches, in to about 6 feet.
He wasn't intimidated by shouting or waving. Neither Doug nor I
wanted to stand up because we had finally found a way to shielding
the stove and I was afraid that my bike would blow over into it.
There were no rocks at hand, the ground being mostly sand, so we had
a staring contest until supper was ready. Once we started eating the
fox wandered away.
Losing
Bill.
Stringing
the food up in a tree.
Passed
Pierrre and Mark at Terrace Bay where we stopped for groceries.
Marathon
is off the highway and down a hill. ~ 8 Km round trip form highway.
We bought gas staion food on the highway. Although it was not late
neither Doug nor I wanted to ride the extra 8 Kms into town. The
fellow at the gas station said it was a $20 cab ride - the going
rate. I don't know why we were both so beat today. After supper I lay
down and fell straight asleep. I woke up 2 hours later and the sun
was still up.
